Over the decades, New England Culinary Institute has grown from just seven students to more than 500. NECI campuses are located in Montpelier and Essex, Vermont. The school owns and operates restaurants, bakeries, catering services and other local food service facilities, which provide hands-on training for our resident students. Despite our growth and continued success, we continue with our original vision of providing high-quality instruction through small student-instructor ratios.

The New England Culinary Institute was co-founded by Fran Voigt in 1980.
NECI's very first class was led by Michel LeBorgne, Maitre Cuisinier de France, in June of 1980. He is one of only 50 Master Chefs of France in the United States and is Vice President of Culinary Affairs at NECI.
Notable alumni of NECI include: Alton Brown (of the Food Network), Steve Jackson, Craig Jacobs, Eric Johnson, Jeffrey Kalinas and Mariana Velasquez.
