The environmental engineering graduate program primarily focuses on water quality systems and water and waste remediation systems. This program provides the education, training and skills to improve your career opportunities in the growing field of environmental engineering. Classes are streamed over the Internet, and each course has an online component with an easy-to-use interface for additional web-based course content and student-faculty interaction. Emphasis is placed on contemporary topics as well as emerging research applications. WPI's program assists environmental engineers with their understanding of a number of technical fields and assists them in effectively managing projects involving complex managerial and regulatory issues. The master's program consists of 11 courses, 10 3-credit courses plus a 3-credit project, or nine courses plus a 6-credit project. Students are free to select a mix of courses that best meet their career and professional development goals and may take courses from other WPI graduate programs with approval of their advisor. A BS degree in civil, chemical or mechanical engineering is normally required. Students with a BS in other engineering disciplines as well as physical and life sciences are eligible, provided they meet additional requirements. All students are required to have a course in fluid dynamics prior to starting their graduate work.
